Dr Claire Fairclough MA VetMB MRCVS OV

Veterinary Surgeon & Owner of Newton Vets

Claire is a local girl, born and brought up just down the road in Haydock. Her family still live in Haydock, and in Newton-le-Willows. She graduated from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 2006. Since then she has been working throughout the UK in many busy practices and veterinary hospitals. She also spent a year living and working throughout Australia treating their pets and native wildlife. She spent 3 months in the rainforests of Borneo studying Orangutans and 1 month in South Africa giving Veterinary Support during Game Capture in Safari Parks. She was proudly nominated for the PetPlan Award - Vet of The Year 2012, 2013 and 2014 due to her dedication to provide the best for pets and their owners. She founded Vetround2u, a Mobile Veterinary service for pets in their own homes in & around St.Helens in 2012 which has gone from strength to strength. Now she is also the proud owner of Newton Vets so she can provide a full service (Surgery, X-rays, Hospitalisation) etc, to her patients.

She has kept almost all animals as pets. Right now she has a cat called Henry who she rescued from the streets of Newton-le-Willows, a dog called Coco, a Minature Yorkshire Terrier, Sophie, a rescued Staffie Cross and Harvey, a rescued Yorkshire Terrier. Both are rescued from Animals In Need.  Then there is Sharon, Dorian and Tracey, 3 rescued chickens from Lucky Hens in Wigan. And let's not forget Germie, a 10 year old Horsefields tortoise who she rescued from a young boy who lost interest in her. Over the years, there is no pet that she hasn't had!

In her spare time she enjoys entertaining her young son, walking her dogs, cooking adventurous meals, growing her own fruit & vegetables and catching up with family & friends.
